Graduation

This past Saturday I graduated from law school. Law school is definitely not easy- in fact, the past three years have been some of the most stressful and emotionally exhausting years of my life. But they were also full of lots of good things: making law school friends, starting this blog, buying our first house, and getting married. I am so grateful for all of my friends and family that offered help and encouragement along the way.

To my law school girls, thank you so much for making each day of class a little more bearable, for reading this blog when nobody else did, and for loving Pedros Pedros as much as I do.

To my sweet husband, thank you so much for listening to me complain and cry on a regular basis, for giving me more pep talks than I can count, for always being there with a bottle of my favorite champagne to celebrate the little victories, for telling me you are proud of me, for helping me cram for tax law when I had a panic attack the day before the exam, and for everything else you do. I couldn't have done this without youI love you so much, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us (and Brady!).

And thank you to all of my family members who took time out of their schedules to come to my graduation ceremony (some from as far away as Texas!). It meant so much to me to have all of you there. We had the best week celebrating with you!

...and now onto the bar exam!

Elle Magazine x Wella Professionals x Canopi event at Charles Scott Salon

Erin, Jaclyn, and Me (photo via Erin)

Thursday night I was invited to attend a fun event at Charles Scott Salon, hosted by Elle Magazine, Wella Professionals, and Canopi.com. We got to sip Prosecco, eat delicious small bites and desserts, get our hair/nails/makeup done by the salon professionals, and mingle with other bloggers from all over Ohio. The salon was amazing- it was decorated in the most calming and inviting colors and the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

I somehow managed to go the entire night without getting a single photo of my outfit, but I wore these pants with a simple gray tee, my navy blazer, silver heels, and my coral Groopdealz flower necklace.

Thanks to Elle, Wella, Canopi, and Charles Scott Salon for a great night full of pampering and fun!

My hairstyle for the night, courtesy of Tina at Charles Scott Salon. The Wella products she used on my hair all smelled amazing.

My new mani with Zoya polish. I can't remember the name of the color, but after some intense online shopping research, I am pretty certain the color is Ali.

Neon Yellow and Navy

{Dress: Old Navy (on sale!) / Sweater: Old Navy / Wedges: Sam Edelman / Bag: Rebecca Minkoff via Poshmark (old style, but the studded version is available here) / Belt: The Limited / Pave Bracelet: Groopdealz / Lips: Revlon in Strawberry Shortcake}

I'm at a loss for what to call the color of my dress...neon? Highlighter/glowstick yellow? Citron (after the Furla bag I'm coveting)? Whatever the proper name is, the color is really punchy and fun, but the feminine cut of the dress keeps it on the classier side of things. I never thought classy was a word I would use to describe neon anything, but Old Navy really surprised me with this one! It is more cheery & sophisticated sun dress, and less 1980s aerobics video, so I thought it would be a good way to give the neon trend a try on a larger scale.

I wore this to my sister-in-law's graduation last weekend (congratulations, Chels!!), but it was a little chilly so I threw on the navy boyfriend cardigan to serve multiple purposes: keep my arms warm and tone down the neon a bit to make it slightly more refined.  The burgundy bag was kind of an afterthought, as I just wanted something large enough so my camera could fit inside and I've been carrying this bag every day lately anyway, but I ended up really liking the burgundy/neon,citron,highlighter/navy combination. It felt fresh and unexpected.

As for the shoes, these are my first pair of Sam Edelmans. I am in love, and I don't care who knows it! I am in the process of tracking them down in black. If you have these (Sam Edelman Javi wedge) in black in a size 7, or even in a 7.5, and would like to get rid of them, please email me!!! I can't find them anywhere, but I need them in my life.

Congratulations, Chels! We are SO proud of you!!

Wearing All White: Leather Jacket and an eShakti Dress

Dress: c/o eShakti / Quilted Faux Leather Jacket: The Limited (on sale!!) / Sandals: Franco Sarto via TJ Maxx (similar) / Necklace: Groopdealz / Lips: Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pink Pop

One of my favorite trends for spring/summer is white. I can't think of anything more chic than a monochrome white ensemble, like a white short suit, with pops of color in the accessories. I don't have a white short suit, but I do have this pretty, feminine dress from eShakti. I have to admit, even though I picked out the dress, I was a little disappointed when I first tried it on because it is SO different than what I am used to (i.e. jeans, not froufrou skirts), and it is unbelievably sheer even though it is fully lined. However, the sheerness is an easy fix, and, after wearing the dress a few times, I'm starting to feel like maybe I really can handle this super feminine cut and the dainty, full skirt.

My reservations about the poufy skirt aside, the dress is very well-made, as eShakti dresses always are, and the fit is impeccable since each dress is custom-made to each customer's measurements.

To make the dress feel a little more in tune with my typically casual sense of style, I added this quilted faux leather jacket from The Limited. The jacket added an edgy element to an otherwise dressy dress (it's actually a wedding dress!). I am obsessed with this jacket. It's everything that I was looking for in a white non-blazer jacket, and it has jersey panels down the side and the arms to keep it from feeling stiff like leather and faux leather often do.

I forgot to check the shutter speed on my camera before I started taking these pictures, so the first few pictures turned out really bright...but I sort of liked the ethereal vibe. Sometimes camera mistakes make for fun pictures!

When I Realize I'm Finished With Law School

When I turn in my last exam and realize that I am officially finished with law school forever, I'm like...

I promise I'll get back to blogging soon. I'm still sort of in shock that law school is over forever, which translates into "I have been spending massive amounts of time on Pinterest, watching reality tv, sleeping in, and reading magazines GUILT FREE."  We are also super busy trying to get the house fixed up before company comes for my graduation ceremony next weekend. If you've been following on Instagram, you know that we've been working on the last bedroom in the house- the one that I want to turn into my cloffice (closet/office) ;) We finished painting last night, tonight we are getting new baseboard, and Monday we are getting new flooring in the room...More on that once the room is finished!

Guest Post: Meet A Little Dash of Darling

Happy Friday! By the end of today, I will be finished with law school forever. Such an exciting feeling. Today, I am excited to introduce you to Caitlin, a fellow 3L (which is law school lingo for a third year student). I love following Caitlin's blog, A Little Dash of Darling, for inspiration on incorporating fun pieces like neon and sequins into polished, everyday outfits. Welcome, Caitlin!

Hi Sugar and Chiffon readers! My name is Caitlin and I blog at A Little Dash of Darling.
I too am a 3L law student and when Katy asked me to help her out by guest posting on her blog so she could focus on her finals, I of course was happy to do it as I know how stressful law school can be.
I started my blog A Little Dash of Darling as a creative outlet from the rigors of law school. I love playing with different patters, textures, and colors for a flirty mix. It's fun to experiment with my personal style by trying new looks, but one thing always remains consistent... I love adding in a little dash of darling!

I would describe my personal style as classic and feminine with a twist. I love throwing in a little bit of edge every now and then with a fun shoe or masculine details like a bow tie.

Be sure to check out my blog and I hope you follow along!.
You can also track my style adventures on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Xo, Caitlin

Guest Post: Spring Florals

Happy Thursday! I am just two exams away from freedom...so close, yet sooo far away.

Today, I am so excited to have Mae from Mae Badiyan here to talk about the spring floral trend. Mae's blog was one of the first ones I started reading because she was a lawyer/blogger, and I eventually found that she just happens to live in the same Oklahoma town where I grew up...small world! Mae is also preparing to open Blo Bar this spring, and I can't wait to go visit. Welcome, Mae!

Hey there Sugar and Chiffon girls! I'm Mae and I'm thrilled to be here covering for Katy as she finishes up finals! No doubt y'all have seen the floral trend for Spring by now. I do love florals but only if they're done properly. Here's a few examples:

Unless you're mixing with another fun pattern (like stripes!), let the floral piece be the star and keep all other pieces muted and simple.

I put together a simple Spring outfit featuring floral pants, my favorite way to wear this pattern!

Are you loving floral for Spring? Or are you tired of this predictable Spring print?
Thanks again for having me today, Katy! Feel free to stop by my blog and say hi anytime friends!
