Fall Staples

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This weekend, my two best friends from college came to visit. We spent the day at the local mall, then came home to show off our new purchases. That’s when I realized that all three of us had purchased something that is on my list of favorite fall staples. They both agreed to model for the blog, so we headed outside since the weather was unseasonably warm. I was hoping we would avoid running into any of my neighbors during our little photo shoot, but no such luck. Despite all the funny looks and creepy stares, here are the fruits of our labor:

1) The Houndstooth Print Skirt

top, skirt: The Limited; shoes: TJ Maxx; sunglasses: New York and Company

For a classic look, pair the skirt with a black sweater, black tights and black pumps with a swipe of red lipstick. For a more modern take, pair the skirt with practically any color, like the jade green top Steph is wearing above. This print is unbelievably versatile.

2) The Utility Jacket

jacket: Forever 21

The utility jacket is the perfect in-between seasons jacket. I love how it looks paired with fitted jeans and a casual top, like Kayla is wearing it here.
3) The Cape

cape: Ann Taylor Loft; jeans: New York and Company; shoes: Missoni for Target

I finally found my cape! This one from Loft is super soft, made of sweater material rather than that rougher coat material. Because it is quite voluminous, I would recommend pairing it with snug-fitting bottoms, i.e. skinny jeans. Also, these heels from Target are amazing. If your store has any left, I highly recommend them. They are black and brown, so you can literally wear them with everything.

Thank you, Tina! As for the cape, it’s on sale now! That’s what I was waiting for too. It is cheaper in store than it is online.

You look GREAT! I love that cape from Loft. I almost bought it, then I thought I would wait for it to go on sale. Terrible decision. Now that I see it on you, I really want it. Great outfit post! Can’t wait to see more.
