Sweater: Old Navy, Chambray shirt/mint jeans/heels: TJ Maxx/Marshall’s
With the official start of fall just days away, I have been re-examining my closet to see how I can get my spring/summer staples to transition into the new season. I love this pair of mint-colored jeans I got at Marshall’s (for $7 on clearance!), but they almost feel too springtime-y. To tone them down a bit and give them a more fall-appropriate feeling, I paired them with a dark tan sweater layered over a chambray shirt.
The key to transitioning your spring/summer pieces into fall is simply to balance them out with pieces that are quintessentially fall, such as darker colors (mustard, maroon, tan, rust, brown, black, etc.) or a pair of sleek riding boots. Another way to help summery pieces transition is layering. A blouse in Easter colors may, at first, seem too froufrou for fall. However, if you layer that blouse under a brown sweater, under a tan blazer and then pair the whole look with maroon pants or dark-wash jeans, the blouse is, all of a sudden, totally season appropriate. Just remember: balance is key!
