The Universally Flattering Skirt Every Woman Needs ($50 and under)

One of my favorite trends this season is the skater skirt. They are so feminine and flirty, and they are flattering on virtually every body type. The high rise emphasizes the natural waist, the flared leg opening slims the legs because they look little in contrast to the wide opening, and the a-line cut slims and conceals the tummy and hips.  Sounds like a dream come true, right?
There are two ways you can approach the skater skirt:
1) To balance out the girlyness of the skirt, I like the idea of pairing a skater skirt with edgier pieces, like studded flats or a graphic tee.
2) To emphasize the girlyness, I love skater skirts paired with a bow blouse or a crisp white shirt, buttoned all the way up and topped with a killer statement necklace. Add some polka dot tights and you have a perfectly girly look, reminiscent of a Kate Spade runway show (and who doesn’t want to look like that?).
The only thing I love more than the skater skirt is the leather skater skirt. It’s the perfect mash-up of edgy and girly, making it a perfect piece to ease into the leather trend if you’re apprehensive to try it like I was. I recently purchased this skirt from Nordstrom, and it immediately snapped me out of my leather fear and solidified my love for skater skirts. Not only did the cut of the skirt make the leather seem much more wearable, the skirt was also probably one of the most flattering pieces of clothing I’ve tried on in ages…and that’s a good feeling.
I can already tell that it’s going to be a staple in my wardrobe this fall, and even into winter. Now I want a skater skirt in every possible color/material I can find.
All the options above are $50 or less. If you haven’t tried one yet, you have to. You won’t regret it!
