February Favorites

Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masque c/o: This moisturizer is amazing. I’ll admit that I didn’t have super high expectations for it because I’m very picky about my moisturizers, but when I woke up the morning after my first use and my skin was soft and glowing, I was sold. The cream is very thick and a tiny bit is all I need to cover my face and neck, so I see this little bottle lasting for a long time, even with daily use.

Lipstick Queen Color-Changing Lipstick in Hello Sailor: This navy blue lipstick looks super intimidating in the tube, but when you apply it to your lips, it turns into a perfect berry hue. The color is sheer but buildable, and the formula is so moisturizing that I’ve been using this as my daytime lip balm.

Chloe and Isabel Endless Pave Necklace and Bracelet c/o: This jewelry is so nice for everyday wear. I love the simple link design and the distressed gold look, and the pave accents add just the right amount of sparkle. If you’re new to Chloe and Isabel jewelry, they offer a lifetime replacement guarantee. It obviously doesn’t cover normal wear and tear, but if a stone falls out or a clasp breaks, they’ll replace it for free or give you store credit. If you’re interested in C&I jewelry, I highly recommend shopping through my friend, Cha’. She’s very helpful and quick to respond, and -fun fact- she’s also a med student.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Face Sculpt and Highlight: This is, hands down, my favorite highlighting product ever. At the Nordstrom beauty event I attended last month, we all kept stealing it from one another…it seriously looks good on everyone.

How to use Clip-In Hair Extensions for Longer and Fuller Braids

One of my favorite ways to use my clip-in hair extensions is to make longer, thicker braids. This is the secret to Pinterest-worthy braids! In these pictures, I’m wearing my 22″ Silky Touch clip-ins in light brown, c/o Irresistible Me. My hair is already pretty long and thick, so I only used one piece here.

First, prep your hair for the extensions. Make sure your hair is dry. Brush out any tangles. I also like to apply a little bit of this product to the ends of my hair to add a little shine and help conceal split ends…it smells heavenly! Very gently remove any tangles from the extensions…I clearly skipped this skip haha.

Part your hair where you want to clip in the weft, keeping in mind that the lower your clip it in, the longer the hair will be and the easier the clips will be to conceal.

Clip the extensions into place and tug gently to make sure they’re secure. They are super easy to clip in- they’re just like the barrettes that were all the rage in the 90s.

Remove the top ponytail. Gently run your fingers through your hair to blend the extensions in with your natural hair. If you want to add more than one piece, just keep repeating this process, starting from the bottom of your head and working your way up towards the crown.

Braid as usual! Fishtail braids can be tricky, but this one seriously only took me about 3 minutes. The added length and volume from the extensions not only makes the braid look better, but it also makes the braiding process so much easier.

Wish List Wednesday

Eyeshadow Palette / Smart Suitcase / Suede Jacket / Tinted Lip Oil / Slide Sandals (up to 25% off with code GOBIG17)

This eyeshadow palette is a find from Nordstrom’s Beauty Trend Week Preview event I attended last week. Karen, our amazing makeup artist for the evening, used this palette on both Fran and me, as well as a few of the other bloggers at the event. It looked so good on everyone. (So did this holy grail product, but I can’t include it in this post because I already bought it…)

I love the idea of the Ready Smart Carry-On. The suitcases are carry-on size and basically indestructible. But the best part? They have a built-in phone charger with 2 USB ports! My phone always dies when we travel because I never put it down. With this suitcase, there’s no more having to seek out one of those crowded charger stations at the airport. The suitcase also has a “proximity notification” feature, which means you will get a message on your phone if you are leaving your bag behind. You can support their crowdfunding campaign here– early bird pricing ends in 9 days.

Practically every blogger has this jacket, and I can see why! It’s so perfect. I looked at it in store last week, and it looks even better in person. It also comes in a handful of colors. The olive green color is on sale up to 25% off here with code GOBIG17.

This Tinted Lip Oil is so fun. The packaging was designed to look like a cocktail shaker (so cute!) because you have to shake the product a few times to blend the oil and the pigment before applying. When you put it on, the oil moisturizes your lips while the pigment is a long-lasting stain. These also smell really good- each one smells like it’s name (peach, watermelon, etc.). We played with these at the Nordstrom event last week, and we all thought they were so cute. The ladies at Nordstrom told us they are also coming out with a matte version in a few months. I can’t wait to try it!

Also, my absolute favorite sweater just got marked down 40% off! I have it in both colors but I’m seriously contemplating buying duplicates because I love them so much and I’m so afraid of something happening to them!

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas For Her

Valentine’s Day Candy Box c/o Candy Club

It’s no secret that I love subscription boxes, and one of my favorites, Candy Club, makes the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. They have a big selection of high-quality candies- chocolate, gummy, sour, etc.- and you can choose the ones you receive in each box. You can also send a gift subscription so your valentine can pick his/her own treats! Right now you can get $20 off your first box or you can get 3 free candies when you purchase a regular box (no codes necessary, just click the links). I just got a box full of the cutest Valentine’s Day themed candies, and I can’t wait to try them once I finish my Whole 30 (longest month of my life haha).

If you prefer to gift something that will last a little longer than the time it takes to devour a bunch of delicious candy, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite rose-hued things. The Dior Lip Glow is one of my favorite lip products. It’s a balm that reacts with your lips to enhance their natural color. I have the Nikes in gray, and they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. The marble watch and the Nars palette are in my online shopping cart tempting me to buy them (wink wink, Cory!), and how cute would this dress be for spring and summer weddings? I love it!

Wish List Wednesday

This week, the things I’m wishing for are all about updated classics- a modern black bag, lipstick in the perfect your-lips-but-better shade, a LBD with fun bell sleeves and some rose gold accents. This dress would be perfect for the upcoming bridal shower and wedding season. It’s been in my Nordstrom shopping cart for a few days now, and I keep checking every day to see if it’s been marked down. I can’t stop thinking about it though, so I think that’s a sure sign I just need to buy it!

My Skincare Routine

I love reading or hearing about other people’s skincare/hair care/beauty routines because they almost always introduce me to an incredible product I had never heard about, so I thought I’d share my skincare regimen with you today. Over the past 8 months or so, I’ve pretty much turned my skincare routine upside down and started using all new things, as my skin made a weird and sudden change from being very dry to having a crazy oily t-zone with dry skin every where else. (Awesome!) I finally feel like I’ve settled into a routine with products that are effective and that I enjoy using and will likely repurchase.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 c/o

Evening

First, I use these wipes to remove all of my makeup. I’ve tried several different types/brands, but these are my favorite. If my skin is really dry or irritated, instead of using the wipes, I will use this cleansing oil to take off my makeup. It’s a bit gentler on my skin than the wipes. It’s also very convenient because it doesn’t require any rinsing even though it feels and works like a traditional cleanser (i.e. no additional cleansing required).

If I use the wipes instead of the cleansing oil, my next step is washing with this cleansing tool and either this cleanser by Herbivore or one of the many samples I’ve gotten in subscription boxes. I love this cleansing tool. It cleanses my face just as well as my Clarisonic, but it is much gentler on my skin. It’s also much easier to clean than my Clarisonic (no replacement brush heads!), so I feel like it’s more hygienic and just overall better for my skin. I actually think I’ll be retiring my Clarisonic for good.

After cleansing, I pat my skin dry and spritz it with this spray toner by Caudalie. I love the way it smells- it has a nice earthy scent with maybe a hint of tea tree? I’m not really sure how to describe it, but I love it! The scent dissipates pretty quickly though, so if you hate the smell, it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

After letting that dry, I spritz my face with a moisturizing mist. This one is my favorite but it’s a little expensive. I also like this one and this rose-scented one (it smells amazing!). I re-apply the mist as need throughout the day.

While my face is still damp from the spray, I apply this Herbivore facial oil for combination skin. It is so luxurious! It feel so nice on my skin and smells like chamomile to me, so I find it very relaxing when I apply it before bed. I use my cleansing tool to help the oil sink into my skin. The oil is pretty expensive, but I think it is absolutely worth it if you have problematic skin. It moisturizes my skin without causing breakouts and has balanced out the oily parts of my skin to make them less of an issue. It also helps reduce redness. It’s a must-have product for me! I also love that all Herbivore products are made with natural, organic and food-grade ingredients, so they are free of toxic chemicals and additives. I’m trying to be more conscious about using natural, chemical-free products, but previous natural and/or organic skincare products I’ve used were totally ineffective. Fortunately, the Herbivore products I’ve been using are giving me great results. I’m dying to try this one after reading about how much Grace loves it.

If my skin is feeling extra dry, I will follow up the facial oil with this moisturizing mask, which I leave on overnight.

Morning

In the mornings, I either rinse my face with cool water or use one of these wipes. I find both to be very refreshing first thing in the morning. Then I spritz on this toner or a moisture spray. While my skin is still damp, I apply this moisturizer and let it sink in for a few minutes before applying this pore & shine minimizer.

Weekly

Depending on what my skin needs, I use a treatment mask or tool 2-3x a week- I alternate between this Herbivore mask for exfoliation, my PMD for a super exfoliating treatment, this self-heating clearing mask and this mask. Twice a week, I use this Paula’s Choice product on the more blemish-prone areas of my face. It’s very effective, so much so that I can’t use it the recommended 1-2x per day or my skin freaks out- remember, skincare is all about balance! Once a week, I use these pore strips on my nose. I use this as a spot treatment whenever blemishes pop up- it’s only $2 and smells really nice.

I also take this supplement every day. It’s supposed to help detox your body from the inside out to help reduce blemishes. Since I started taking it, my skin has been remarkably clearer.

Cyber Monday Sales

IT’S THE BEST ONLINE SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR!!!

It’s kind of funny to me how much I love Cyber Monday because, when I first started Sugar and Chiffon 5 years ago, I hated online shopping. I was a firm believer that you had to see and try everything on in stores. Ha! My, how much has changed. Now, I pretty much exclusively shop online, at least when it comes to fashion & beauty. So if you’re bffs with your mail carrier, then THIS IS THE DAY FOR YOU!

Funny story: Last week I was unloading groceries from my car and carrying them inside when our UPS man pulled up to deliver a package. He smiled and said “It’s so nice to finally meet you…I’m at your house more than you!” I couldn’t stop laughing. My husband was not quite as amused haha!

And now, ON TO THE SALES! Make sure to check back here throughout the day, as I’ll be rounding up and sharing the best individual items on sale today (aka the things I’m ordering/have already ordered). See you soon, UPS man!

Sephora VIB Sale

sephora_vib_sale_wish_list_2

The Sephora VIB sale starts TODAY! If you are VIB or VIB Rouge, you can get 20% off your Sephora purchase. I’ll be stocking up on some of the items mentioned in my last post, as well as ordering a few new products I’ve been wanting to try….if only I could try all the things I want! Here’s a look at my Sephora VIB Sale wish list:

1. Caudalie Beauty Elixir: Facial mists always seemed so frivolous and unnecessary to me until I got a couple of them in Birchboxes and used them after a nasty sunburn. I fell in love! I now use a mist 2x a day, then apply moisturizer while my skin is still damp from the mist. It has helped with dryness so much. I’m almost out of all the mist samples I received from subscriptions boxes, so I think I’ll try this Caudalie toner/mist next since I love all of their products I’ve tried.

2. bareMinerals Blurring Buffer Foundation Brush: I’ve heard amazing things about this brush, mainly that it helps you get a bit heavier but smoother coverage when using it with bareMinerals powder foundation.

3. bareMinerals Blemish Remedy Foundation: Lately, I’ve been fighting with my skin. I used to have plain ol’ dry skin, but now it’s some kind of combination where I’ve got a super oily t-zone with crazy dryness everywhere else. I’d like to try this, but I’m worried about it drying out my non-t-zone skin.

4. Herbivore Lapis Oil Balancing Facial Oil: The reviews I’ve read about this product say it’s great for balancing skin that has oily/blemish-y parts as well as dry parts. I’m hoping that this will help moisturize the dry parts and clear up the oily parts, and finally help me end the fight with my skin. Also, how pretty is this going to look on a vanity?

5. Caolion Blackhead Steam Pore Pack: The blackheads on my nose are seemingly invincible, but this mask has rave reviews. It’s also much cheaper than the GlamGlow mask mentioned above, so I feel like it’s worth a try.

6. Dr. Dennis Gross Peel & Moisturize: Can you tell I’m having skin issues based on the number of skincare items I want to try right now? The peel and moisturize duo is supposed to be great for both blackheads and dryness, so sign me up!

7. Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Liquid Foundation: I always go for my bareMinerals powder foundation, so I don’t even know what it’s like to wear liquid foundation. I’d kind of like to give it a go, and this one by Guerlain is one of the highest rated on Sephora.com.

8. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask: Another mask that’s supposed to clear up/prevent blackheads, exfoliate your skin and give you a radiant glow. I’ve also heard that it smells like pumpkin pie. Yum!

9. Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment: This is supposed to be great for cancelling out redness in your skin. My skin has seriously pink undertones, so I feel like I always look like I’m really hot or embarrassed. It’s also supposed to help combat blemishes and uneven skintone, plus I think it just sounds neat.

10. Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette: The colors in this eyeshadow palette are so pretty!

11. Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder: Fran has raved about this powder multiple times. It’s hard for me to imagine a moisturizing powder, so I’d love to try this and see what it’s like.

12. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Set: I love the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick that I already own. I’m really into nude lip colors right now, and I think this set would be a perfect addition to my collection. It would also be a great stocking stuffer!

13. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never: Hallie wears this color all the time, and it looks amazing on her. I’ve had it in my shopping cart for about 5 months, so I think it’s about time I pull the trigger and buy it.

14. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette: The colors in this palette are gorgeous. The palette is also supposedly really small (say the reviews- I haven’t seen it in person), so it’s perfect for throwing in your purse for mid-day touch ups. I love my Naked Palettes, but they are so big that they don’t fit into any of my makeup bags.

15. The Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick: I think this looks so cool! It’s essentially a primer in stick form, but you can also use it on top of your makeup throughout the day to blur the look of pores and eliminate oiliness.

Lastly, this product isn’t sold at Sephora, but I really want to try this lipstick in the shade Kim K.

I love hearing other people’s beauty hauls, so let me know what you pick up from the Sephora sale!
