I’m a big fan of reading blogs/social media sites that chronicle weight loss and health journeys. After talking to my friend Fran about her “Healthy-ish” series and how it’s helped keep her accountable, I decided to follow in her footsteps. I’m going to start blogging about my own journey to be my best and healthiest self!
My plan is to share my progress (please, PLEASE let there be progress, haha), foods I’m eating, workouts I’m doing, health blogs I’m reading- pretty much anything that is related to my own weight loss and health journey.
If you haven’t noticed, things have been a little quiet around here lately…I actually think it’s been two full weeks since my last Instagram post! #FAIL. For a quick little life update, I started a new job about a month ago and have been trying to get used to my new routine. I’ve also been spending most of my free time crafting for my sister-in-law’s bridal shower.
Now that things have settled down a little, I’m hoping to get back to blogging more consistently. I’ve really been missing it! So the plan is to share my “Shedding the Sugar” update each week, starting next week.
And because I need my “Wish List Wednesday” fix, here are a few of the things that have caught my eye lately:
My February favorites this month are pretty heavy in the beauty department, but I promise they are all really good.
Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masque c/o: This moisturizer is amazing. I’ll admit that I didn’t have super high expectations for it because I’m very picky about my moisturizers. But guys, when I woke up the morning after my first use and my skin was soft and glowing, I was sold. The cream is very thick. A tiny bit is all I need to cover my face and neck, so I see this little bottle lasting for a long time, even with daily use.
Lipstick Queen Color-Changing Lipstick in Hello Sailor: This navy blue lipstick looks super intimidating in the tube, but when you apply it to your lips, it turns into a perfect berry hue. The color is sheer but buildable, and the formula is so moisturizing that I’ve been using this as my daytime lip balm.
Chloe and Isabel Endless Pave Necklace and Bracelet c/o: This jewelry is so nice for everyday wear. I love the simple link design and the distressed gold look. The pave accents add just the right amount of sparkle. If you’re new to Chloe and Isabel jewelry, they offer a lifetime replacement guarantee. It obviously doesn’t cover normal wear and tear, but if a stone falls out or a clasp breaks, they’ll replace it for free or give you store credit. If you’re interested in C&I jewelry, I highly recommend shopping through my friend, Cha’. She’s very helpful and quick to respond. She’s also a med student!
It’s no secret that I love subscription boxes, and one of my favorites, Candy Club, makes the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. They have a big selection of high-quality candies- chocolate, gummy, sour, etc.- and you can choose the ones you receive in each box. You can also send a gift subscription so your valentine can pick his/her own treats! Right now you can get $20 off your first box or you can get 3 free candies when you purchase a regular box (no codes necessary, just click the links). I just got a box full of the cutest Valentine’s Day themed candies, and I can’t wait to try them once I finish my Whole 30 (longest month of my life haha).
If you prefer to gift something that will last a little longer than the time it takes to devour a bunch of delicious candy, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite rose-hued things. The Dior Lip Glow is one of my favorite lip products. It’s a balm that reacts with your lips to enhance their natural color. I have the Nikes in gray, and they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. The marble watch and the Nars palette are in my online shopping cart tempting me to buy them (wink wink, Cory!), and how cute would this dress be for spring and summer weddings? I love it!
I stumbled across this deal today when a family member asked me to help them find a gift for an upcoming birthday, and it is too good not to share! This deal is amazing, especially since it includes lots of items that don’t usually go on sale! Today only, online only, Macy’s is offering 50% off a huge selection of kitchen goods- pots & pans, bakeware, appliances (including KitchenAid mixers!!!), and pretty much anything else you could ever want or need for your kitchen. This is a great deal particularly if you are trying to cook more and eat healthier- you can stock up on all the healthy-cooking essentials for a fraction of the price. Let me say that one more time: KitchenAid Stand Mixers are 50% off!!!! Use code FIFTY to get the 50% off. All orders over $49 will automatically get free shipping.
Up until the last two months or so, I was totally in denial that cute workout clothes were really that much of a necessity. When I went to the gym, I would wear baggy sweatpants and an old college t-shirt, or leggings and one of those giant t-shirts they hand out at sporting events. I was (and to some extent, still am) uncomfortable in the gym because I certainly don’t look like I belong there, so hiding under giant clothes was my way of trying to be invisible, I guess.
In August I started working out with a new trainer who always dresses in the coolest, trendiest workout clothes and has a sneaker collection that rivals my actual shoe collection. He’s also very muscley and intense, so imagine my surprise when we bonded over shoes of all things! The next thing I knew, he had convinced me to order rose gold Nikes. Then the craziest thing happened- that one pair of shoes had a transformative effect on me. It sounds so silly, but when I wore those Nikes, I felt like a bad ass. Forget the gym- I felt like I belonged in a Nike catalog! Then I picked out another pair of Nikes I wanted for Christmas. Then I found these marble workout pants and knew I had to have them. I also got this coral and rose gold sweatshirt.
Now, I’m a firm believer that cute workout clothes will actually help motivate me to work out. Getting dressed is half the battle, right?
Just like when I was a child, I love putting together my Christmas list each year…the only difference is that my wish lists now are made up of things like bags and shoes instead of life-sized Barbies and stuffed Disney characters (Nala from the Lion King was my jam). I love to see what’s on everybody else’s wish list too, so I always think it’s fun to share my list with you!
Apple Watch Bracelet Band: I love my Apple Watch, but it definitely does not look as nice as my other watches. The two lovely ladies behind this brand created a few different Apple Watch band designs that look make the Apple Watch more like a piece of jewelry than a computer on your wrist.
Cashmere Wrap: I have this exact wrap in gray and I absolutely love it. I consider it to be one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It is insanely soft (as cashmere usually is), it’s thin but warm, and it’s large enough to use as a blanket but rolls up nice and small to be worn as a scarf. It’s a must-have for travel, especially for long flights. I cannot say enough good things about it. Also, it comes in about 20 different colors! If you sign up here, you can get 15% off your first purchase.
Luggage: When I was in college, I bought my first suitcase at TJ Maxx. It was hot pink and huge. I’m still using that same suitcase even though I’m embarrassed every time I wheel it through the airport or pick it up at baggage claim. It’s just so….pink. Also, all the zipper pulls have broken off, so it’s a huge pain to open and close. I’m ready for a nicer, better quality, more professional and grown-up looking suitcase. I love the marble print even though it’s still kind of a statement piece. I also love this black and tan one– it looks so sleek and luxurious. I would definitely not be ashamed to be seen with this suitcase!
Silicone Facial Brush: I’ve been wanting to try this facial brush for a while, but it’s pretty expensive and I’m not sure I’ll like it any better than my Clarisonic. This version on my wish list is a fraction of the price, and I actually like the shape of this one better than the Foreo- the pointy tip seems like it would do a better job of cleaning around the nose, which is my main trouble zone.
Also on my wish list but not included above because they’re random and not particularly glamorous: a salad spinner, a soup ladle, an electric throw blanket, and cute workout clothes. More on the workout clothes later!
But honestly, more than any of the stuff on this list or anything else, I just want to travel. I’m hoping to mark a few places off of my bucket list this year, including Iceland or Paris…or both!
I tried to include plenty of things that aren’t Christmas related, but I’m in full holiday mode, so it was hard! There are lots of great deals on cozy blankets, festive dish towels, and all things coffee and cocktail related. And how cute is that Louis Vuitton dog toy?! It says Chewy Vuitton on it…I love it!
It’s kind of funny to me how much I love Cyber Monday because, when I first started Sugar and Chiffon 5 years ago, I hated online shopping. I was a firm believer that you had to see and try everything on in stores. Ha! My, how much has changed. Now, I pretty much exclusively shop online, at least when it comes to fashion & beauty. So if you’re bffs with your mail carrier, then THIS IS THE DAY FOR YOU!
Funny story: Last week I was unloading groceries from my car and carrying them inside when our UPS man pulled up to deliver a package. He smiled and said “It’s so nice to finally meet you…I’m at your house more than you!” I couldn’t stop laughing. My husband was not quite as amused haha!
And now, ON TO THE SALES! Make sure to check back here throughout the day, as I’ll be rounding up and sharing the best individual items on sale today (aka the things I’m ordering/have already ordered). See you soon, UPS man!
This cause is so close to my heart, as breast cancer has had a direct impact on my family. When I was four, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. By the time she was diagnosed, the cancer was already in the late stages, and I don’t think there was much the doctors could do with the medicine/technology at that time. Since I was so young at the time, I don’t know much about the details, but I do remember going with my mom to her chemo treatments. She passed away three weeks before I started kindergarten.
Thanks to research/technology/fundraising/medical advances, the medicine and treatment for breast cancer has come so far since then. This week, October 17-23, if you’re planning to shop online, I encourage to shop through the ShopStyle links of any of the bloggers who are participating in this campaign. Together, we can finish the fight against cancer once and for all.
