You Know You’re a Style Blogger if…

lipstick_and_rockstuds

1. You know that the recipe for a perfect Instagram is to include two or more of the following in the same picture:

-macarons
-lipstick
-Vogue Magazine
-Valentino Rockstuds
-a Celine tote
-Karen Walker sunglasses
-avocado toast
-statement jewelry
-lipstick residue on a Starbucks cup (+5 cliche blogger points if it’s a Pumpkin Spice Latte; +10 if it’s in a red cup)
-peonies (+5 if they’re pink)

food photos

2. You always photograph your food, and your family stares in amusement every time you contort your body to make sure the lighting is just right. And then they get annoyed when you finally take the photo and they discover all their food is cold.

Whitening Lightning/Gerard Cosmetics Beauty Products

Watch the video above to hear about some great new beauty finds from Whitening Lightning and Gerard Cosmetics. I am absolutely in love with all of the products in the video, and, to be honest, I’m not sure how I’ve gone all this time without them. The Brow Bar to Go is a game changer for filling in brows but still getting a natural look, and the BB Plus Illumination Cream is going to be a staple for me this summer. The lights in the lip glosses make application so much easier, even for people like me who have the lipstick/gloss application skills of a toddler. All of the lip glosses mentioned in the video are swatched below, but there are lots of other colors available from Whitening Lightning- I want to try this one next.

Whitening Lightning has generously offered a discount code for Sugar and Chiffon readers! Take 25% off your entire purchase at both WhiteningLightning.com and GerardCosmetics.com with code SUGAR

Thanks for watching!

*All of the mentioned beauty products were gifted by Whitening Lightning for purposes of review. As always, all content and opinions are my own.

Happy 4th of July

Since the first day of the bar exam is four weeks from yesterday, I have decided to take full advantage of the four day weekend by taking a break from the blog and really anything that is not bar exam related. I hope to use this time to catch up on my study course and cram all these laws into my little head. Well, at least that is the plan for now. We’ll see if I can actually resist the temptations of barbeques and fireworks and sales at the mall and making s’mores around the fire pit.

We’ll see.

Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

Summer Wedges under $80

1. ShoeDazzle Ladii $44.95/ 2. ShoeDazzle Palermo $64.00 / 3. ShoeDazzle Shahla $54.95 / 4. Shoemint Elloise $79.98 / 5. Sole Society Kandace $59.95 / 6. Sole Society Tate $59.95 / 7. ShoeDazzle Sherrylin $42.95

When it comes to summer footwear, wedges are my absolute favorite. I’m pretty short, so I like to add some extra height to my frame, but I hate the achy, blistered feet that often come with height-adding shoes. Wedges give me that extra height without sacrificing comfort like you do with traditional heels. Oddly enough, I don’t own very many pairs of wedges, and of the ones I do have, all but one have seen better days and are basically falling apart. While perusing the internet for cute wedges, three retailers really stood out from the pack: ShoeDazzle, Shoemint and Sole Society.

If you can’t tell, I am having a ShoeDazzle moment lately. They have really pretty designs curated by Rachel Zoe, and the price point is spot on with the shoes starting at just $40. I’ve got my eyes on 4 different pairs, but I’ve vowed not to buy any more shoes until I make enough money from Poshmark to pay for the new shoes. (Shop my Poshmark closet here, wink wink.)

I’ve long been a fan of Shoemint. While their prices are a bit higher (prices start at $79), the shoes are manufactured by Steve Madden and curated by Rachel Bilson, so the designs are fabulous and the quality is excellent.

Sole Society is nice because it is also sold at Nordstrom, and Julianne Hough designs shoes for them. She’s adorable, and so are her designs! Both ShoeDazzle and Sole Society are new to me, so I don’t know firsthand about the quality. However, after lots of online research aka blog reading, it seems like both are pretty decent in quality.

New members get 20% off their first ShoeDazzle purchase, 25% off their first Shoemint purchase and 20% of their first Sole Society purchase of $69.95 or more (use code RMN20 for Sole Society).

And, so long as we are talking about shoes, you can take an extra 25% off clearance Luxe810 brands at DSW (includes Gucci, Prada, Giuseppe Zanotti, Herve Leger, and several more) now through Monday with code 25LUXE.

Happy shoe shopping!

Royal Blue and Lime

Sweater: Gap / Shorts: J.Crew (on sale!) / Headband: Lemons & Lace /Sandals: Kors Michael Kors / Bracelets: Kate Spade, Pandora, Groopdealz
I just have to tell you how much I love this headband from Lemons & Lace. I usually hate headbands because, while often necessary, they usually are either so loose on my head that they fall off every 10 minutes, or so tight that they give me a headache. When I saw all the cute Lemons & Lace designs, though, I simply couldn’t resist ordering a couple…and they are PERFECT. Not too tight, not too loose, just the right amount of stretch, and cute enough to wear with every day clothing and not just gym clothes. Also, the company is based in Ohio, so it felt good to know that I was supporting a small, local business while feeding my shopping addiction. 😉
Also, these J.Crew chino shorts are one of my favorite pairs of shorts I’ve ever owned. They were on sale in store last weekend for $30 plus an additional 30% off, so I picked up a few pairs. They come in such fun colors and prints, different inseams to cater to different comfort levels when it comes to leg-bearing, and the tailored cut looks so crisp and clean. I highly recommend them!

Guest Post: Meet A Little Dash of Darling

Happy Friday! By the end of today, I will be finished with law school forever. Such an exciting feeling. Today, I am excited to introduce you to Caitlin, a fellow 3L (which is law school lingo for a third year student). I love following Caitlin’s blog, A Little Dash of Darling, for inspiration on incorporating fun pieces like neon and sequins into polished, everyday outfits. Welcome, Caitlin!
Hi Sugar and Chiffon readers! My name is Caitlin and I blog at A Little Dash of Darling.
I too am a 3L law student and when Katy asked me to help her out by guest posting on her blog so she could focus on her finals, I of course was happy to do it as I know how stressful law school can be.
I started my blog A Little Dash of Darling as a creative outlet from the rigors of law school. I love playing with different patters, textures, and colors for a flirty mix. It’s fun to experiment with my personal style by trying new looks, but one thing always remains consistent… I love adding in a little dash of darling!
I would describe my personal style as classic and feminine with a twist. I love throwing in a little bit of edge every now and then with a fun shoe or masculine details like a bow tie.
Be sure to check out my blog and I hope you follow along!.
You can also track my style adventures on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Xo, Caitlin

Guest Post: Spring Florals

Happy Thursday! I am just two exams away from freedom…so close, yet sooo far away.

Today, I am so excited to have Mae from Mae Badiyan here to talk about the spring floral trend. Mae’s blog was one of the first ones I started reading because she was a lawyer/blogger, and I eventually found that she just happens to live in the same Oklahoma town where I grew up…small world! Mae is also preparing to open Blo Bar this spring, and I can’t wait to go visit. Welcome, Mae!
Hey there Sugar and Chiffon girls! I’m Mae and I’m thrilled to be here covering for Katy as she finishes up finals! No doubt y’all have seen the floral trend for Spring by now. I do love florals but only if they’re done properly. Here’s a few examples:
Unless you’re mixing with another fun pattern (like stripes!), let the floral piece be the star and keep all other pieces muted and simple.
I put together a simple Spring outfit featuring floral pants, my favorite way to wear this pattern!
Are you loving floral for Spring? Or are you tired of this predictable Spring print?
Thanks again for having me today, Katy! Feel free to stop by my blog and say hi anytime friends!

Guest Post: Couscous Salad

Today, I’m so excited to have Dina of Dina’s Days on the blog! We first met at the Cleveland/Akron/Pittsburgh blogger brunch back in February. Her blog is a constant source of cooking and diy inspiration, and her constant thrift store finds are seriously enviable. Welcome, Dina!

I got this recipe from my boyfriend’s mom, and although our ingredients are slightly different, it’s delicious no matter how you make it. This couscous salad is fresh, light and healthy, and the best part is that it doesn’t require any major or hard to find ingredients – I already had everything on hand! We both used Israeli pearl couscous because it’s thicker and bigger than regular fine couscous. This recipe will work with either kind, but I’m personally a fan of the pearl couscous because of the size.

What you need (serves 4)

1 cup Israeli pearl couscous
1 yellow squash
1 zucchini
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1/2 chick peas
1/2 spanish or kalamata olives
1/2 crumbled feta cheese
2 cups fresh spinach
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons olive oil
Seasoned salt
Black pepper
Lemon pepper
Onion powder

What you need to do:
Boil and cook couscous as instructed on the box or container then drain water and season with seasoned salt
Chop squash, zucchini, tomatoes, and garlic
Season vegetables with seasoned salt, black pepper, lemon pepper, and onion powder
In a large pan, cook squash, zucchini, and garlic in pan with a little bit of olive oil. If you have a grill, grill the vegetables for an even better taste.
Add drained couscous, tomatoes, olives, spinach, and chick peas to pan
Mix all the ingredients together in the pan
Remove from heat, transfer to bowl and mix cheese in and then add cheese on top before serving

Enjoy! Leftovers taste great too!

Guest Post: Spring Sandal Picks

Today, Jaclyn of Sharing My Sole is here with a lovely guest post while I’m panicking studying for the rest of my exams. Jaclyn has seriously impeccable style, and I swear I have seen her face in nearly every single issue of InStyle Magazine I have ever read. She’s that good!
Welcome, Jaclyn!

Hi there, Sugar and Chiffon readers!  I’m Jaclyn from Sharing My Sole and am happy to be guest posting for Katy today, a fellow Cleveland blogger!  I am a total shoeholic and am always looking for cute sandals and heels to add to my ever-growing collection.  Although spring has been almost non-existent here in Cleveland, I still have my wish list of sandals to purchase for warmer days to come!  Here are my four must-have sandals for spring…
